[x-], antiker Ort am Ostrand des judäischen Berglandes, rd. 8 km südlich von Bethlehem, in Grenzlage zwischen Wüste (im Osten) und Kulturland (im Westen); im Alten Testament in 2. Samuel 14, 2 erwähnt sowie als Heimat des Propheten Amos in Amos 1, 1. Aufgrund seiner strategisch günstigen Lage wurde Tekoa unter Rehabeam (10. Jahrhundert v. Chr.) oder wahrscheinlicher unter Josia (7. Jahrhundert v. Chr.) zur Festung ausgebaut und später unter Antiochos IV. erneut befestigt. Tekoa ist archäologisch kaum erschlossen (Reste einer byzantinischen Kirche, Verehrungsstätte des Grabes des Amos). Seit dem 17. Jahrhundert n. Chr. ist Tekoa weitgehend unbesiedelt.
